  • Job Summary

    The Pick Driver is responsible for operating a transit vehicle, as assigned, for the transporting of participants in the transit program, following established policies, practices and procedures. The driver shall always utilize professional and safe practices in operating transit vehicles to ensure their safety as well as the safety of the public and program equipment and project a positive image of the agency.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Drive vehicles over specified routes to destinations according to time schedules

    • Comply with safety procedures and traffic laws

    • Record and timely submit passenger counts, fare collections, vehicles maintenance and record data

    • Immediately report all traffic accidents, citations, or other incidents to the appropriate supervisor

    • Attend, upon request, all staff and other appropriate meetings, trainings, and conferences. This shall include defensive driving, passenger assistance and sensitivity techniques, CPR and First Aid

    • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles

    • Comply with dress code set by the agency

    • Annually submit personal insurance verification and driver license renewal to Central Office

    • Observe and comply with all agency’s personnel policies and procedures

    • Perform a complete pre-trip inspection of the vehicle, safety check equipment, and inform supervisor when adjustments or repairs are necessary. Submit completed inspection forms weekly

    • Assist passengers on and off vehicle, ensure they are seated and secured properly, help carry baggage and answer questions about schedules or routes

    • Comply with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) in operating the transit vehicle

    • Handle passenger emergencies or disruptions

    • Report all off duty traffic citations to the appropriate supervisor within 7 days

    • Attend work punctually and regularly to provide consistency of service

    • Perform other program-related assignments as designated

    Qualifications

    • Must have been a licensed driver for at least one year

    • Must have a clean motor vehicle report with 0 points against driving record

    • Must pass DOT Drug and Alcohol Test

    • Must be at least 21 years of age or older

    • Must possess an Oklahoma driver’s license Class D or an Oklahoma CDL Class A, B, or C license

    • CDL Holders must maintain a valid medical certificate

    • Must pass national criminal and sex offender background checks

    Education

    • High school diploma or equivalent

    Supervisor

    • Reports to Route Supervisor

    Physical Requirements

    • Be able to operate a motor vehicle for long periods of time

    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and assist passengers entering and exiting a vehicle; physically able to bend, stoop, push and pull to secure mobility device and evacuate a vehicle

    • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    • Ability to deal effectively with the public

    • Maintain confidentiality concerning riders and agency business operations
